Answering India's Water Crisis: The Rajasthan Water Revival Project

The Crisis: A Parched Landscape

In the heart of Rajasthan, the Chambal River Basin- a lifeline for both people and wildlife-is running dry. Erratic rainfall and unsustainable water extraction have driven the groundwater table down by nearly three meters a year. The result is devastating: farmlands are barren, families are migrating, and the delicate balance of the ecosystem is collapsing. This crisis is not only human-it’s planetary. The basin is home to the critically endangered gharial, the red-crowned roofed turtle, and the Ganges River dolphin. As the water disappears, so does the habitat that sustains them. Without urgent restoration, this unique sanctuary could be lost forever.

Our Solution: The Chambal Hydration Project

Through the Rehydrate the Earth campaign, Football for Peace Foundation is working to unite local communities to restore the natural water cycle, reviving both land and life. Using the unifying power of football, we are galvanising communities to come together, build solutions, and take ownership of their shared environment and water sources. Across 9 villages, we are constructing hydration recharge features that will capture monsoon rain, store up to 10 million litres of water, and replenish the groundwater aquifers. This isn’t short-term aid, it’s long-term regeneration. We’re rebuilding the planet’s natural systems through:

  • Restoring catchments: Traditional johads, check dams, and farm ponds slow and store rainwater.
  • Reviving ecosystems: Recharged groundwater boosts vegetation, stabilises soil, and renews biodiversity.
  • Empowering communities: Villagers are trained in water management, regenerative farming, and ecosystem restoration.
  • Uniting youth through sport: Football clinics inspire and mobilise young people as environmental stewards.

The Environmental Impact: A Ripple Effect of Regeneration

Your support fuels a transformation that ripples far beyond water:

  • Revitalised Rivers: Healthier groundwater keeps the Chambal flowing, sustaining endangered species and local agriculture.
  • Re-greened Landscapes: Water retention turns desertified land into fertile farmland, halting desertification.
  • Biodiversity Rebirth: Recharged aquifers mean cleaner, cooler habitats—life returning where drought once ruled.

By investing in water, you help heal an entire ecosystem and give hope back to a planet under pressure.

The Power of Community: Custodians of the Land

True restoration starts with the people who live closest to nature. Our approach is community-led so villagers, youth and members of the community plan, build, and maintain every feature.

Through workshops and football-based education, they gain practical green skills and become lifelong custodians of their land. At the heart of this approach is youth leadership, educating and upskilling local villagers and young people in water management and restorative techniques, and empowering them to become the permanent custodians of their water future. Together, they form a generation that protects not only their community’s resources but also the shared future of our planet.

Impact

Your Donation, Their Future: Join the Water Revolution:

| Secure a Family's Water Future

Your gift helps ensure a family has a dependable water source for the future, protecting them from drought and scarcity.

| Plant the Roots of Change

You could fund the planting of 25 native trees. These trees hold the soil together, create shade for crops, and help rain soak deep into the earth, feeding the springs and wells.

Green a Village

Fund the work needed to transform a dry village into a green, sustainable home for its community.

 | Create a Water Source for a Village

Help build a small, natural pond that captures rainwater. This simple structure provides a vital water source for families and their livestock and helps the local wildlife thrive.
