Support for homeless and vulnerable adults/families and those in need in London, Slough and surrounding areas

Project by THE LONDON AND SLOUGH RUN

 New stretch target

We are in the planning stage of discussions to take over a 10 single occupancy unit building in Slough, which will provide all year round transitory accommodation for the homeless. Working in collaboration with Slough Councils Rough Sleeper team, we will be able to offer shelter and a safe space for those in need, so they can receive outreach support in readiness for ‘move on accommodation’.

For over 35 years, we have supported the homeless and those in need by feeding them both on the streets and in the hostels.  We work all year-round to provide food, clothing and assistance to the homeless, and at present we feed about 150 guests on the streets of London every Monday night with sandwiches, hot soup, tea and fruit.

During the coldest months of the year there is an additional and critical need for shelter and because we do not want to just feed our guests but find them accommodation and a job, we have  expanded to run a Winter Night Shelter.  The Winter Night Shelters have been used by a range of guests from entrenched rough sleepers  to those who have simply found themselves in desperate need of help.

- The last shelter saw 44 people accommodated over a 3 month period

- Six were victims of domestic violence and were re-accommodated safely

- Overall 22 guests went on to settled housing

- Emotional and practical support was offered from a range of differering agencies

In addition, during the pandemic, we set up a food hub operation in Slough running 7 days a week, helping local people and many families in need. We collect surplus food from local supermarkets in Buckinghamshire and redistribute items to various organisations in Slough who directly serve their local communities; people and families in need. At present we feed locally about 160 people daily but this number is rising.

For 2023, we are in the early stages of looking at the feasability of setting up a container village for homeless families in the local area.

WE RECEIVE NO GOVERNMENT FUNDING AND ARE STAFFED ENTIRELY BY VOLUNTEERS.  ALL DONATIONS RECEIVED HELP US TO KEEP HELPING OTHERS.
