Aim

I'm putting my running shoes back on and taking on the London Marathon in 2027 to raise essential funds for Comic Relief.

I have completed one marathon in my lifetime. If I'm honest, that is where I thought I would end my running journey, and it's fair to say that I've hardly run since, but something in me wanted to attempt it again.

In 2024, I finally made it to the start line on my 15th attempt in the ballot. I almost didn’t, as I picked up an injury 6 weeks before and was told by a physio not to run again until race day. On the day, I was so nervous as I had not been able to complete those final critical weeks of training. As you can see from the photo, I did make it across the finish line! The first 20 miles went incredibly well (surprisingly!) and then the injury kicked back in... the final 6.2 miles were slow and agony, but nothing was going to stop me from finishing. In attempting it again, I am hoping I can complete it injury-free and actually enjoy the experience of crossing the line on The Mall.

In April, I will be running in support of Comic Relief, who British Airways (my employer) has a long-running charity partnership with. Comic Relief has supported more than 35,000 projects, where its work focuses on the key issues of basic needs, a safe place to call home, best start in life, (early childhood support, education, and safety), safe from harm, and justice for all (tackling discrimination and inequality). I am so proud to be taking on this challenge (again) to raise funds for so many life-changing projects that help to provide safety and support for those in need across the UK and around the world.
