The more we raise, the more we will be able to invest in our premises, for example replacing our ageing windows, improving accessibility within the building by replacing/widening doors, or by giving the interior some much needed TLC.

Samaritans of Hillingdon will be celebrating 50 years of listening throughout 2023. Our charity, which was founded in 1973, is one of over 200 Samaritans branches across the UK and Ireland which provide 24/7 support to those in need of a listening ear

We are based close to the centre of Uxbridge and have approximately 100 volunteers. We receive 16,000 calls for help each year.
Although best known for our telephone service and supporting people experiencing suicidal feelings, Hillingdon Samaritans, assists callers on a wide range of issues and support is also provided by email and webchat as well as through outreach in the local community.

WHY OUR SERVICE MATTERS
- Suicide is the biggest killer of men aged under 50 and those aged 16-24
- There were 5,219 suicides registered across England in 2021
- Of which, 24 were recorded in the London Borough of Hillingdon
- Our services can help to alleviate distress and despair
Samaritans of Hillingdon is an independent charity, staffed entirely by volunteers. We are dependent on donations and grants to operate and need to raise a minimum of £25,000 (and rising) each year to continue our work
IMPROVING OUR PREMISES
Beyond covering our core running costs, we are seeking to raise additional funds to improve our premises, which require modification to become more energy efficient and to offer greater accessibility for volunteers and service users. Our building has been updated only a couple of times since we moved in in 1984 and requires modernisation to provide a more comfortable environment.

We are incredibly grateful to British Airways, who are supporting with some funding. After running with a deficit in the 2022-23 financial year, this will go a long way to ensuring our financial sustainability and helping to build the funds we need to update our facilities, ensuring we are here for those who need us for many years to come.
