Feeding the Homeless - First UK charity to take the concept of langar (food) to the streets of the UK

NishkamSWAT is seeking funding to expand its outreach capacity through the acquisition and deployment of two fully equipped outreach vans. These vehicles will play a critical role in enabling us to deliver food, essential supplies, and support services directly to homeless and vulnerable individuals across multiple locations.

Each van will be purchased and professionally refitted at an approximate cost of £25,000 per vehicle, with an additional £5,000 per vehicle allocated for external branding and paintwork. The refit will ensure that the vans are optimised for safe food storage, transportation, and efficient distribution during outreach activities.

Once operational, the vans will be integrated into our existing outreach network and deployed weekly by trained volunteers, including qualified drivers from within our organisation. The vehicles will support both established routes (such as our Reading outreach) and enable the expansion into new areas of need.

Through this project, we aim to:

• Increase outreach capacity, allowing us to serve more individuals each week across the UK
• Improve efficiency and reliability in transporting food and supplies
• Enhance safety and compliance in food handling and distribution
• Replace outdated vehicles - with fresh new compliant vans
• Strengthen community engagement, with branded vans increasing visibility and awareness of our work

Based on our current operations, each van has the potential to support outreach services feeding hundreds of individuals per week, contributing significantly to our wider impact of supporting over 5,000 people regularly.

Ultimately, this project will enable NishkamSWAT to scale its frontline services, reduce logistical constraints, and ensure that more individuals facing hardship receive consistent, dignified support.
