Aim

To create greener, healthier cities by planting and caring for urban trees so that everyone benefits, no matter where they live.

The focus of the Trees for Cities project is two urban locations in the immediate vicinity of Heathrow and London City airports, working with neighbourhoods that are densely populated and devoid of trees. In these contrasting areas of inner and outer London, we will increase biodiversity and climate resilience by engaging communities in planting, caring for and benefiting from urban trees to create nature-rich local environments.

Urban populations face rising temperatures, more extreme weather, and ongoing loss of biodiversity. Without urgent action, our cities are becoming hotter, more polluted, and less resilient, with vulnerable communities experiencing the greatest impact. Trees provide a cost-effective and uplifting natural solution: they cool our streets, improve air quality, reduce flood risk, support biodiversity, and enhance our health and wellbeing.

Working with local communities to understand how they use their spaces, we will design and plant green infrastructure that reduces flooding, screens pollution, increases biodiversity and creates inviting, accessible spaces for socialising, play, learning, exercise and wellbeing. Both projects will bring transformational change to the residents and restore nature and build climate resilience over time.
