Invest in a Reading based community foundation and facility that mentors young people around the risks and dangers of drugs gang involvement knife crime and engages them in community based activity that empowers them to have their voices heard about the issues they face growing up in Reading.
This is a community-based engagement and art project, which would see Reading communities, and partners place its own unique stamp on utilising amnesty weapons from community based knife bins. Capturing the voice of the community to represent peace, serenity and hope, the recovered weapons and knives from Reading's amnesty bins will be smelted down into a format that be re-purposed into a design, which will visually represent the community led ideas and vison. Artists and members of the Reading community will come together to develop ideas to build a positive installation/sculpture to the scope of Peace, Serenity and Hope for the current and future generations. This is following local incidents involving tragic losses of life through serious violence. This sculpture will become an important piece of Community made public art and form part of Readings proud and varied history of Art and Culture for future generations to see and understand the journey the Reading communities have made. This project is part of a self healing community approach to changing the narrative around knife carrying towards #liveknifefree.
All donations and contributions will be held by the Berkshire Community Foundation.
