Who are we?
We're a partnership between two friendly organisations in East London.
We are working together to support our local community in Newham and Redbridge who are experiencing inequalities in accessing mental health support and physical activity.
Muslimah Sports Association empowers Muslim women through the world of sport. Our mission is to break barriers, inspire change, and foster unity among women, transcending cultural and religious boundaries.
Mind in Tower Hamlets, Newham and Redbridge have been delivering mental health services and support in our community for 30 years.
Why are we crowdfunding?
With your generous help, we can continue our successful Positive Minds programme, providing peer to peer support and physical activity.
It's a tough time for charities at the moment, with your help we can continue to support women in our local community.
We began the Positive Minds programme during the pandemic, bringing together women who haven’t traditionally accessed mental health support.
"I have been spending so much time at home or with family only, even after COVID. For several years I remained away from friends and community, and this had a huge impact on my wellbeing. Thankfully I joined this session, and I haven’t looked back". Participant, Positive Minds.
Our project is co-designed by the local community, every week we focus on the needs of our participants, and we try a range of activities from walking around our local park and soccercise.
In January 2024, we teamed up with Mind in Tower Hamlets and secured a small grant from Mind. Although our project is low-cost, we need support to continue the programme so we can support more women, many of who experience barriers in accessing physical activity and mental health support.
How we’ll spend the money raised
This campaign provides a lifeline so we can continue to empower women to prioritise their mental health and physical well-being. Your generosity can help give hope to local women who don’t traditionally access support and help build a brighter future.
Your pledge will help us to continue the Positive Minds service. We currently run the programme in the local library but need to move to a bigger space as we are already at maximum capacity.
Coaches: (£2000) Our facilitators provide a service at a reduced cost. With your support, we can continue to provide high-quality delivery by rewarding their valuable time and commitment.
Facilities: (£2000) We currently run our sessions in the local park and the library. Your generous donation will help us venture to new venues and offer new activities such as swimming, badminton and football.
Resource: (£1000) Your generous support can help us to continue to provide physical resources and reward our volunteers for their hard work and commitment. We will also be able to continue to provide peer to peer support training, upskilling participants to become leaders of the programme.
Community impact
Since we started the programme we've achieved some fantastic impact including:
- 100% of participants have improved wellbeing.
- 100% of participants feel more able to support their wellbeing.
- 90% felt their physical health had improved.
- 100% of participants would recommend this programme to others.
We are committed to ensuring that services are accessible and culturally appropriate for the diverse communities in the boroughs we work in.
We co-design every session with the local community, ensuring we provide a service that meets those needs.
By providing ‘Positive Minds’ we are filling a gap in those services, reducing mental health stigma and promoting physical activity for our wellbeing.
With your generosity, we can continue to support more women.
"Thank you so much for this friendly welcoming and beneficial group. I really enjoy being out of the home and with likeminded sisters. We discuss topics that are crucial to our mental health. Also, the activities are relaxing, varied and inclusive". Positive Minds participant
How you can help us:
There are four ways to help us reach our target and help us continue our service:
1. Make a Pledge: Every donation is key to our success.
2. Help us Promote: Please share our fundraising page on your social media pages and raise awareness of what we are doing. The more people we reach, the better chance we have.
3. Offer Donations: If you are a business, you can help by donating things that we can offer to our supporters as a gratitude for their help.
4. If you want to run your own fundraiser: maybe a sponsored activity or similar – use the 'contact project' button at the top of our page to let us know. Setting up your own page only takes a few minutes and you won’t need any bank details. Just a fun idea!
