75% of suicides are male, but men are half as likely to ask for help with mental health. The HUMEN Space is a real preventative solution.

HUMEN is leading a movement to prevent men from suffering in silence and dying too young. Our work is to champion empathy and compassion among men, connecting with our feelings and exposing the damaging effects of phoney toughness.
To do this we need to reach more men and their families and friends. We need to change the narrative on mental health to prevention rather than cure. There is no cure once someone has taken their own life.
The HUMEN Space can be a place where new generations redefine what masculinity means, and throw away the old sterotypes.
Reaching our stretch target will double the impact of the HUMEN Space Online, and double the number of people involved in the conversation on male mental health. We can spread the message that it’s okay to be sensitive as a man. In fact it's powerful, and vital.
HUMEN exists to confront the issues that cause our men to make this heartbreaking choice. To challenge and change the underlying causes of this pressure, and to provide a safe space where men can be comfortable with who they are.
Our HUMEN Space Online is a digital environment where men can share their thoughts and struggles on this journey, to open up knowing they will receive support. As a result, fewer men will reach breaking point. This Gym for Your Mind is a non-clinical, non-judgemental and appealing safe space for men to talk, connect and listen on a regular basis. We can stop our men from falling into the river in the first place, instead of fishing them out with clinical intervention, which comes too late for so many.
We are asking for funding to provide 1,300 sessions for men through the HUMEN Space, covering the setup and running costs, recruitment of facilitators, training and management, and reaching out to men who would benefit. Thanks to the British Airways Better World Community Fund, they will match your donations until we have hit our target, doubling the difference you can make.
“HUMEN has offered me a place to express my emotions with no fear of being judged. Every Monday I leave the session with a little more hope and feeling a little less alone.” - HUMEN Space beneficiary.
From as young as 6, boys can begin to hide their empathy and compassion, replacing it with a façade of toughness that they believe is what is expected of them. This creates lifelong problems and causes nearly 5 thousand men to kill themselves in the UK every year. They leave families empty, parents bereft, and children emotionally scarred. They leave their friends and loved ones asking ‘how could I miss this’?
Please help us be there for more men. Your donation counts double thanks to the British Airways Community Fund, please help us make the most of their generous offer.
This project offers rewards in return for your donation.
